Bellenden Big Lunch

Last weekend we were very happy to be a part of the Bellenden Big Lunch, a chance for the local community to get together to eat, drink, chat, listen to music and dance. We offered 15 minute massages for a voluntary donation to go to local charity Southwark Food Bank. Thanks to every one who got involved, we raised £112!!

What a great day with music from a local steel band and capoeira from Danny BairdMoves.

Hot Stone Massage

Last weekend I took a one day course in Hot Stone Massage with Gateway Workshops..

Evidence of hot stone massage dates back over 3000 years, ancient civilizations believed that hot stones were beneficial for cleansing the body, relaxing the heart, grounding the soul and soothing the mind.

Hot stone massage combines the benefits of Hydrotherapy and Thermalism with massage strokes, using stones to create a deep, relaxing and healing treatment.

Benefits include

  • increased local circulation

  • improved blood flow to the surrounding tissues

  • greater ability to transport toxins and waste products from the area

  • hot/cold stones provide a fantastic tool creating a sense of depth to the massage without causing to much strain to the therapist’s hands

It was a practical course so we were able to experience the massage and it was wonderful!!

I have ordered some stones and a heating bag so stay tuned for some introductory offers!!

Mindfulness Meditation in Barking

Had a great day teaching Mindfulness to young adults at a school in Barking Essex a couple of weeks ago. Myself and Lucy Da Silva guided four year groups through some simple practices and hope to have left them with food for thought with a mindful eating exercise.
We also did a session with the staff as part of their wellness program . A good day all round .
If you would like to experience a group or one to one mindfulness session please get in touch. Mindfulness meditation has really helped to minimise anxiety and instilled calmness in my life and many others who I know. When calm I’m more likely to offer a more considered response than an immediate reaction. I can also remain very present to the here and now experiences of each day.

In the news!

We are delighted to share in the 5 year celebrations of our local paper Peckham Peculiar

Our introductory offer is valid on you first booking of any of our treatments and includes block bookings.

Baby Massage Instructor Training

At the beginning of the year I took a Baby Massage Instructor course with Gateway Workshops. During the course, among other things, we learnt the importance of touch, especially between a primary caregiver and an infant, the baby behavioural states and when/when not to massage a baby.

As with all courses with Gateway, it was interesting, fun and educational. We were each given a doll to practice on, shown the routine to use and had plenty of time to practice.

The training will be delivered in 5 hour long sessions for mother/father/grandparent and baby on a weekly basis.

New Year, New Start

January sees the beginning of some new study for both of us.

I will be taking a Baby Massage Instructor Training course which will enable me to teach new parents the wonderful skill of massage. Some of the benefits of baby massage include helping to bond, soothe and aid sleep.

Austin will be continuing his study of Transactional Analysis beginning with Process Group Training at the Berne Institute in Kegworth followed by the foundation year with TA East in Wanstead.

He will also be facilitating more meditation retreats at the Marist Center in Nympsfield near Stroud in April and September.

We are off to Portugal at the end of January to seek a venue for a European retreat which will offer meditation, yoga/qi gong, massage, reiki and of course free time to explore the local area.

Chilled in a Field Festival

On one of the hottest weekends of the year we were at Chilled in a Field Festival at Bentley Wildfowl and Motor Museum in Lewes, East Sussex with Treatment Tents. Another family friendly festival, we were there for 3 days providing 1 hour Indian Head, deep tissue and full body massages to the many festival goers. This is a great little festival with plenty of things for the kids to do and a late night silent disco in the woods for anyone feeling up to it!

Charity Day

Yesterday we held a charity fundraiser day at home. Along with a couple of other local therapists we invited friends and family to join us for half an hour sessions in reiki and massage. Over the day we had around 15 clients and provided Reiki, Indian head and back neck and shoulder massages as well as cake, flapjacks and chilled drinks. We opened up the garden for people to sit and relax and had as many people relaxing there as we did in the treatment room! We raised a total of £250 for local charity Isabel Hospice.

Elderflower Festival

Last weekend we teamed up with Treatment Tents again for a sunny weekend of massage in a field. For the 2nd year we were working at Elderflower Field Festival in Pippingford Park, East Sussex. It’s a lovely, family friendly festival with plenty to do for all ages. Once again Treatment Tents were running the Woodland Spa and we were fortunate enough to be working for them, alongside a number of other therapists. We had a full weekend of Indian Head and full body massages with a variety of clients in the beautiful lotus belle tents that Anna & Nicola provide.

RHS Spring Festival

This weekend we were working with our friends at Treatment Tents providing massages to the customers at the RHS Spring Festival in Malvern. Anna & Nicola invited us to join them in the new spa area at the festival, it’s the first time that the RHS festival has included a spa so it was a new venture for everyone. After a slow start on the Thursday all round as this is the members’ day so a lot quieter, the place was swarmed for the rest of the weekend and we were non-stop. We were offering half an hour walk in Indian head or back, neck and shoulder massages and had a great time. We even had a little bit of time to have a nose at the wonderful plants, gardens and designs!
